From the Fire

Feature on From the Fire for Sunday Arts on WNET: New York Public Media, Channel 13

60 Minutes Review

Unlike the HBO doc which is cookie-cutter constructed, bleak and morbid,
From the Fire is wonderfully innovative, positive and inspiring.

I felt comfortably wrapped in the protection of the incredible score —-
complemented by precise and confident direction and a talented and
charming cast. The music was like another player —- vibrant,
mischievous, moving and clearly decisive without being overbearing.  The
voices, along with the beauty and movement of the actors, the
meticulousness of the staging, wistful lighting, bold sound, church
setting, and even the seating plan, held me captive to an emotionally
riveting experience.

Blueprint for the modern American oratorio.
